SSE's customer figures grow
One of the UK's leading energy suppliers has announced that its customer base has increased by 650,000 in the nine months to the end of 2007.
Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) has revealed the figures, which mean that the company is now the second largest gas and electricity provider in the UK with 8.4 million clients, in its interim management statement.
The company also revealed that the number of complaints sent to energywatch, which concerned the firm, also fell by 22 per cent compared to statistics for the previous year.
Ian Marchant, SSE's chief executive, said that the results showed that the firm has made "major progress" in both operational and investment activity.
He added that the statement also boded well for the future, saying: "Through operations, investment and acquisitions in this financial year, the foundations for sustainable, long-term progress and growth have been laid."
The release of the figures has come after Alistair Phillips-Davies, the firm's energy supply director, said that the company was also planning to keep its domestic tariffs "as low as possible for as long as possible".
